CONCORD (Persesuaian)

Concord adalah persesuaian antara subjek dan predikat (verb) menurut kaidah bahasa Inggris yang benar. Agar English lovers mudah memahaminya, perhatikab dan hafalkan masing-masing concord berikut.

Berikut adalah beberapa kaidah concord :

• Apabila subjek plural, maka verb-nya juga harus plural

Contoh :
1. We are very busy today.
2. The students always come on time.
3. They have seen the movie many times.

• Apabila subjek singular, maka verb-nya juga harus singular

 Contoh :
1. She studies English everyday.
2. Lukman is watching TV.
3. A goat eats the grass.

• Kata-kata berikut jika menjadi subjek, maka verb-nya selalu singular

Everybody Everyone Anyone Anybody Somebody Someone

No one Nobody Nothing Anything Everything Something

Contoh :
1. No one works at Sunday.
2. Everybody knows the importance of English.
3. Everyone loves him so much.

• Kalimat diawali dengan "there" dan "here", subjeknya setelah verb/to be

 Contoh :
1. There are many books in the libary.
2. There is a pen on the table.
3. Here is your pen.
4. Here are your books.

• Kata-kata berikut menjadi subjek, maka verb-nya menyesuaikan subjek yang disebut terakhir

1. Neither ... nor ... Itidak keduanya)
2. Either ... or ... (salah satu)
3. Not only ... but also ... (tidak hannya ... tapi juga ...)

Contoh :
1. Neither Lucky nor Lukman is playing football now.
2. Either Awie or his friends are going to school.
3. Not only Rinto but also his wife is very busy today.
